Comments:

The bombings of the Twin Towers echo through every aspect of American life, but at ground zero,
it is impossible to avoid the shockwave. I, like many other New Yorkers, grew up with the Twin
Towers. They symbolized New York to me. Channel eleven uses them as a company logo. I bike
past them almost every day as I make my rounds of Manhattan. To me they were massive, ugly and
immovable. Having them gone tears the crown from the head of this city. Having all these people
die makes the former seem like small fries and makes New Yorkers realize how small we really are.
Still, we’re tough bastards and we’ll make it through this. Anger is often ill expressed in the
beginning, as it was on the 12th when in retaliation for the bombings, New Yorkers attacked each
other, pulling two cabbies from their cars not a block away from my apartment on Central Park
West. Still, these incedents were few and in the end, New Yorkers band together for the greater
good. We did it when we fought the British, we did it when the WTC was bombed in 1993 and we’re
doing it now.

The object of the terrorist act was to give us pause. To make us stop doing what we do. By that I
mean to make us stop living as we do, feeling as we do and acting as we do. They wanted us to stay
home all day on Wednesday. They wanted us to close the markets and let the economy slide into the
dumper. If that’s what they wanted, they’ve won. Still, life returns to normal and our chapter
has decided to say “fuck the terrorists” and hold all events as planned on the 10th. We have
some new officers as of next month and that’ll be good for the chapter as I know Chris has been
under a lot of stress lately and needs a break. He works at a paper where he looks at the towers
all day and then he comes home to the wonderful news.

Still, we’re tough bastards here and we aren’t going to let some cowardly sociopath who only feels
the unfettered hatred of a poorly schooled religious zealot from the third world ruin our fun.
Already we’ve gotten the word out to help with volunteering and donating blood and we will be
running games as planned, forever, until Benladin or whoever did this blows US up. Enrique Torres,
our ACC treasurer and former CST worked on the 81st floor of 1 World Trade Center and he got out.
Most people in the region probably know about it from the story everyone’s been asking about.

Like I said, we’re tough bastards here. We’re going to make it.

We’re in negotiations for space from Columbia. We have space in NYU for pretty much the rest of
the year, which is good. I’ll keep you all posted.
